Consumer Price Index (CPI) - Global Inflation and Expenditure Categories
The Consumer Price Index measures changes in the prices paid by households for goods and services. This page brings together the all-items index, the main COICOP expenditure categories and the relative position of countries.
The data are monthly, but not every category and country is updated in the same month. Each chart therefore states how the observation is selected and how it should be interpreted.

| Measure | What it measures | How to read it | Update |
|---|---|---|---|
| CPI index | Level of the price index. The index base may differ across series and sources. | The index level is mainly useful for tracking the same series over time. For comparisons across countries, the YoY rate is preferable. | Monthly, subject to availability by country and category. |
| YoY | Percentage change from the same month of the previous year. | +2.9% means that prices are 2.9% higher than in the same month a year earlier. This is the main inflation measure used in the charts. | Available when a year-earlier comparison exists. |
| Observation date | Month to which the observation refers. | Always check it in international comparisons: two countries may both show their latest available value, but for different months. | Depends on national release calendars and availability in ILOSTAT/OECD. |

How to read the indicators: the median represents the middle country in the distribution, not a weighted average. The share above 5% shows how widespread high inflation is. Only countries with at least one observation in the latest 3 calendar months relative to the latest month in the dataset are included for the selected category.
Global distribution · All itemsYoY (%) · recent data only: June 2026 - August 2026
How to read: each point is a country; the farther right it lies, the greater the increase in prices compared with the same month a year earlier. The orange line is the median calculated only across the countries shown. The selected country is highlighted in blue. If a few countries have extremely high or low values, the axis is compressed non-linearly: all values remain distinct while the distribution of most countries stays readable.Data dates: the chart includes only countries with at least one observation in the latest 3 calendar months, calculated dynamically relative to the latest month available for the selected category: from June 2026 to August 2026. For each country, the most recent observation within this window is used; the tooltip shows the exact month.
Price pressure by expenditure categoryGlobal median YoY · only data from the latest 3 months for each category
How to read: each bar shows the median YoY change across countries for that COICOP division. Bars to the right of zero indicate rising prices; bars to the left indicate prices below their year-earlier level.Data dates: the selection follows the same rule as the first chart: for each category, a dynamic 3-month window is defined relative to that category's latest available month, and the most recent observation within the window is used for each country. The tooltip shows the effective period and the number of countries included.
