Farm-gate milk prices

This page provides with:
  • a table that displays, in the given period, the monthly average price of farm-gate raw milk in Italy, Germany, France and in some Eastern European countries;

  • two graphs that compare, in the given period, the monthly average prices recorded in Lombardy with both those recorded in the Czech Republic, Slovakia and Hungary, as well as with those recorded in Bulgaria, Romania and Poland;

  • two graphs that compare, in the given period, the monthly average prices recorded in Bavaria with both those recorded in the Czech Republic, Slovakia and Hungary, as well as with those recorded in Bulgaria, Romania and Poland.
Our reading of the graphs may be amplified by looking at the data for bulk milk exports in these countries, including towards Italy, which is an importer.
A further contribution is provided by the page Exports of milk and cream of New EU Countries.

N.B.:
As of 2004, there have been Eastern European countries becoming members of the European Community and the Single Market in successive waves. As such, alongside the traditional milk producers, we now also have Hungary, Slovakia, Czech Republic, Poland, Bulgaria and Romania. The (present and future) expansion of the EU will have a number of effects, including: the opening of new markets, potentially with more competitive milk prices; higher quantities of the product (both finished and unfinished) in circulation; new market shares for both imports and exports; change in consumption.
