Grana Padano is produced in a specific geographical area located in the northern Italy and in particular in some provinces like:
Alessandria, Asti, Biella, Cuneo, Novara,
Torino, Verbania, Vercelli, Bergamo, Brescia, Como, Cremona, Lecco, Lodi, Mantova, Milano, Monza, Pavia, Sondrio, Varese,
Trento, Padova, Rovigo, Treviso, Venezia, Verona, Vicenza, Bologna, Ferrara, Forlì Cesena, Piacenza, Ravenna and Rimini,
as well as the following districts of the Bolzano province: Ante-rive, Lauregno, Proves, Senale-S. Felice and Trodena.
Grana Padano is a P.D.O. product and its status is governed by European regulations (n. 2081/92 and n. 1107/96) that provide minimal standard procedures in the cheese processing , specific product properties and "quality seal" issued by "Consorzio per la tutela del Grana Padano" a governance entity in charge of quality requirements.
The production of Grana Padano accounts for 22% approx. of total milk output in Italy.
The price of Grana Padano is quoted weekly on different market places, such as Mantua, Cremona, Brescia, Milan...
International market reports that worldwide consumption of Grana Padano and Parmigiano Reggiano is remarkably expanding. (see export)
