Animal Diseases
Lumpy skin disease
Lumpy Skin Disease is a highly contagious viral disease that affects only cattle.
It is caused by a virus belonging to the Capripoxvirus genus and is mainly transmitted through biting insects such as mosquitoes and flies.
Infected animals show symptoms such as fever, nasal and ocular discharge, swollen lymph nodes, and the appearance of painful skin nodules all over the body.
In addition, the disease can cause weight loss, reduced milk production and, in the most severe cases, death of the animal.
As it poses a serious threat to cattle farming, Lumpy Skin Disease is subject to mandatory reporting and strict control measures, including vaccination and movement restrictions for infected animals.
