Italy: Pig herd by type
The page presents the number of pigs in fattening and breeding farms in Italy, broken down by Category, Region, Province and Municipality at the end of December 2025.
On the map of Italy, it is possible to identify the areas with the highest intensity of pig farming based on the color and select the level of investigation by Geographic Area, Consistency and Detail (by Region, Province or Municipality).
It is also possible, by clicking on the name of the Regions in the table, to view the provincial detail within each of them.
Classification of pigs:
- Suckling Pigs: Male or female pigs from birth to weaning.
- Feeder pigs: Male or female pigs weighing 25 to 50 kg.
- Grower pigs: Male or female pigs weighing 50 to 90 kg.
- Fat pigs: Pigs from the age of ten weeks to slaughter or use as breeding stock weighing 90 kg and over.
- Sows: Female pigs that have already given birth for the first time.
- Gilts: Female pigs that have reached puberty, but have not yet given birth.
- Boars: Male pigs that have reached puberty and are intended for breeding.
